As we all know, Into Darkness came out recently. So I did the only thing a rational human being could do and started watching TNG all the way through again.
But this time, my brother has started getting them on Blue-Ray.
Win has been achieved.
They've had to redo alot of the special effects because a final negative version was never filmed, the effects were simply added onto other passess. But they've tried to recreate everything as accurately as possible, even the things they wanted to change (those words being spoken specifically by the Okuda's on the Blue-Ray special features).
So one of the things that I noticed during that featurette was a scene of the E-D and the Crystalline entity, both the original Standard Definition verison, and the HD Blue-Ray version. I don't have a blue-ray player for my PC, so you'll have to deal with some fairly crappy cell-phone shots of the TV, but the detail I'm going for is unmistakeable.
It's barely noticable in the original...
But in the HD version, its pretty clear that the E-D's shield system operates with two layers. Perhaps this could be a "primary and secondary" shield system similar to the Scimitar, or perhaps it is just a complex multi-bubble option of a 'single shield' system.
Either way, a pretty cool detail I don't think I've seen mentioned anywhere before.
